If it’s not already completely obvious, I love fairy lights and cozy interiors. If I wouldn’t go blind from it, I’d attempt to light our whole apartment with fairy lights. They create such an inviting, warm atmosphere that allows people to relax and feel comfortable. If it’s also not already completely obvious, I love white interiors. Not modern, cold white.. not shabby chic white.. more nordic, cozy, lots of textures white. Lots of linen, reclaimed wood, faux fur etc. I’ve always loved interiors with white/light furniture pieces and pops of color from pillows/flowers/decor, but “white” was also kind of a necessity for taking pictures in here. Pictures are just easier to take with a white backdrop of some sort, whether for my blog or anything else I’m doing.
I’ve had quite a few questions about our sofa and where it’s from. Being that we’re always moving apartments every year or so around here, I didn’t want to buy an “investment piece” quite yet and have it ruined. I also wanted to test out how high maintenance a white couch would be. Turns out, I’m only ever buying white couches from now on! They’re incredible. Here’s why: anytime they need to be cleaned or something gets spilled on them, you can take off the slipcovers and wash/bleach them. If you’re not into bleach, you can hang them outside and let the sun naturally bleach them. And after they get worn out, you buy new covers, not a whole new couch. The only color you can bleach without ruining is white. Therefore, this is the easiest color to use, in my opinion, and creates such a cozy atmosphere when paired with the right kind of lighting.
Our sofa is the “Kivik” from Ikea. I bought the footstool to add on as an extra piece to put our feet up on. The reason I bought the sofa and footstool, instead of just buying the sofa and chaise (attached as one), is because when people come over I use the footstool as a seat and can move it for extra seating. Then when people leave, I put it back up against the couch as a “chaise” so it doesn’t take up room.
I covered our couch in white Belgian linen that I bought from a fabric store. I wanted the loose linen, Scandinavian look, so I just tucked it into the sides and let it hang. Some have asked about the linen pillows and where I bought them. I actually made them myself with the extra white Belgian linen I had! Waste not, want not.
